03 · Long-term commitment and surrender
Insurance is usually a long-term commitment. Early surrender can be costly and surrender value may be less than total premiums paid; loans, withdrawals, charges and low crediting can reduce cash value or cause a policy to lapse. Premium financing carries interest-rate and currency risk, and banks may call for additional collateral.

Cross-border clients should obtain independent advice on tax, foreign-exchange and reporting obligations in the relevant jurisdictions.
