VUL Singapore — the variable universal life guide

vul.com.sg is the English-language knowledge guide to variable universal life (VUL) in Singapore. It is written for international families who live in Singapore or use Singapore as a wealth platform, for expatriate high-net-worth individuals, and for the professionals who work with them: private bankers, trustees, family offices, tax and legal advisers.

The site covers five things: the contract structure of a VUL; the investment options (insurer sub-funds versus open-architecture mandates, permitted assets, in-specie premiums); the charges; the boundary between a Singapore high-net-worth VUL and private placement life insurance (PPLI); and the due diligence to complete before signing. The questions particular to cross-border families — tax residence, CRS and FATCA, US and UK connections, non-resident applications — run through every page.

What this site does not do: it does not recommend products or insurers; it does not quote any insurer's rates, minimum premiums or age limits as facts; and it does not promise returns, approvals or tax outcomes. Every number carries a unit, a currency, a date and a source, and the sources page lists them all.

Division of labour within the network: vul.sg carries the Chinese-language depth on VUL, including premium financing, underwriting and legacy structures; ppli.com.sg covers PPLI carriers, domiciles and set-up; iul.sg and iul.com.sg cover indexed universal life plans, financing and mechanics; ilp.com.sg covers retail investment-linked policies; vul.hk compares the Hong Kong and Singapore frameworks; xiaopoxian.com.sg explains Singapore's insurance regulatory system for general readers. The Chinese pages on this site are summaries of the English pages, not a second site.

Editorial principles

  1. We compile only public material from insurers, banks, regulators and official statistics, citing source and date per item; where the source is silent, we do not infer.
  2. We separate guaranteed from non-guaranteed, fact from opinion, regulation from practice; illustrations, back-tests and past performance do not indicate future results.
  3. We do not recommend products or promise returns, approvals or tax outcomes; personalised advice is the responsibility of licensed or exempt institutions and their appointed representatives.
  4. Cross-border content states the applicable jurisdiction; readers should obtain advice in their own jurisdiction.
